Biography

Melanie Swan was born in Bournemouth in 1952 and grew up in Southern England.  She moved to London where she was received into the Russian Orthodox Church in December 1972.  Melanie was later sponsored to take an icon painting course in France and worked in the Civil Service and the Tate Gallery after her return .  She later moved to Cambridge and began studying for her degree as a mature student at the former CCAT.   By the time she graduated in 1984, she had had her 3 eldest children and moved to the Isle of Wight!

Melanie married fellow artist Martin Swan in 1998 and they live in Newport, Isle of Wight, with her youngest son and 3 cats. Martin is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
